A failure at felting

Before: (Round 1 - in my washing machine with a couple of buckets of hot water and the contents of a boiled kettle as I have no hot tap in the laundry. Round 2 - at KD's place in a very hot wash with a warm rinse)

After: Yeah. Nothing happened. Bloody bag. Bloody felting. Bloody hell.

Maybe I should try the yarn they specify. And throw my verison in the bin. At least I'm not the only one with this problem...

  1. aww! that sucks! any wool that says superwash or machine washable is not feltable. :( i figured that out too last month. i sent a friend 4 skeins of yarn with a pattern to felt and it didn't...but the label didn't say any different

  2. Already knew that - this was a wool crepe which didn't say machine washable. Maybe the crepe was the problem...

  3. I soooo feel your pain. Especially having spent so much bloody time knitting it up! But one day the felting-failures of the world will unite and take over the world - ahahahahaha! Eherm. Sorry. I'm sure we'll master it one day.

  4. Yeah lots of yarns don't felt - sometimes its the coating they put on the fibres in the finishing process - sometimes it's the dyes! I knitted a pair of slippers to felt in stripes and onw colour won't felt while the rest has. Some yarns are actually recycled and though they are still pure wool, they don't felt well because the fibres of wool are cut small in the recycling process and then rebonded using chemicals. Check the label for "Pure New Wool" and you should be right.
