Today is Singapore's National Day...

...and also the day my final payment was due for my November cruise to Singapore. Sort of fitting, I thought.

I'm a sad woman though - I was toying with the idea of buying a portable sewing machine to take with me to set up in my cabin. The thought of 18 days with no sewing was just too scary. Luckily I saw sense and talked myself out of such a mad cap scheme...

  1. It's not such a madcap scheme! I got a portable sewing machine so I could sit in a cabin at Tuross and quilt.

Actually, it is a madcap scheme. Maybe you should take some handsewing to take the edge off.

  2. The four issues I think would make the idea a non starter:

    1. Ships run on American electricity so the machine would need to be able to cope, battery operated or I'd need a transformer.

    2. Irons are banned on board because of the fire risk - and it'd be no fun sewing if I can't iron!

    3. The weight and space a machine would take in my luggage would probably be much better used for other things - oh, like all that lovely fabric I hear you can buy in Indonesia...

    4. Trying to explain to customs on the way back into Australia that the huge pile of bags in my luggage should be ignored as they were fabric when they left Australia, sewn by an Australian and to be sold in Australia could be problematic...
