Another illegal picture hook

The second two day weekend in a row (an amazing occurrence) has given me the luxury of time. Time to start catching up on stuff that's been waiting to be done for far too long.

One of those things was finishing off the my scrapbook for Call of the Small. And creating a new entry for my Wall of pride:Which involved sawing one of the plinths in half lengthwise to fit inside a box frame from my frame stash.The pedant in me is trying to ignore the fact that the plinth is actually from Book 4 by David Hodges, not Olivia's pear at all. We'll just call it artistic licence, shall we?

Packing up

This morning I was at Craft ACT assisting with the demount of Call of the Small.

Finally, a review. Sort of...

Stumbled across this post this morning after belatedly following up Inside Out magazine's latest blog recommendations.

I forgot to mention!

Call of the Small has been extended by a week. So if you haven't had the chance to pop in and see the exhibition (or purchase that miniature goodie you've had your eye on), never fear: you now have until the end of the month.

Wednesday wanderings

I had a day off today and M1K1 and I decided it was the perfect time for her to make a belated trip down to see the exhibition,making sure to wear the famous rosemarie cardigan for the photo shoot (even though it really was too hot for such things today)

Then there was a visit to Shop Handmade, lunch at Gus' Cafe, followed by a visit to the Alex Asch works at Something in the Air CMAG exhibition.

And a visit to Jazz Apple Cafe for a little something to keep the energy levels up:(Mmmmmm.... red velvet. With a daisy...)

Next stop was Toyhaus in Fyshwick, which I've been meaning to visit for months. Mainly because I knew they had a Villa Sibi in stock and I wanted to go stroke it...

While I was there Louise told me they're working on getting The Emerson in stock.

I wasn't taking much notice as I'd spied this:which followed me home to be added to the caravan collection.

The day finished with a visit to Plastic Creations where we dreamed of what could be done in miniature with all their lovely plasticy bits.

And then, alas, it was time for M1K1 to hit the road.

Not.

Bleary eyed and half awake, after fetching this morning's paper from the end of the drive I opened Panorama and saw this:For a nanosecond I got terribly excited and thought we'd got a double page spread about the exhibition. Then, as the early morning brain fog cleared I realised it was a different cabinet of curiosities, not Sharon Cornthwaite's Writing desk of intelligence. Oh well, maybe next week...

The opening

OK, OK, I get the message. I was going to leave posting about the opening until I'd collected photos from various other cameras that were floating around on the night but you'll have to cope with the few photos I took that turned out halfway decent. (You've already seen the best here and here)

A teaser...

After three mad crazy full-on days, one opening, one dinner, two glasses of wine and a celebratory cocktail at Knightsbridge Penthouse I'm a bit buggered.

And am due at work in just over 10 hours. But thought it only fair I share the first photo which made me whoop from today's shots on the camera: Chris checks out the gallery in detail.

Playing in the corner

This morning I was in at Craft ACT painting my plinths.
As I looked down at my little plastic roller, my little plastic paint tray and my little (not plastic) plinth. I felt myself regress to eight years old

especially as I was positioned in the corner, out of the way of the big and important things.
I dropped one of my plinths in my paint tray, something I'm sure has never happened in full size!As I left for lunch, I noticed Simon using the very same roller on his work. And suddenly I was back to my usual age...

The Elevator Pitch

Thanks to the brilliant Ampersand Duck (who alas, is not brilliant enough to be two places as once and so will be missing tomorrow night's opening) I have my elevator pitch of what Call of the Small* is:

"It's a teeny exhibition of teeny craft works, made very seriously by serious craftspeople"

(Although I can't help giggling at the mental image of lots of po-faced people hard at work in their studios)

*Name borrowed for the occasion from the real Call of the Small

48 hours out...

And this is how I feel:Out of focus and all a flap. An accidental photo which I decided was a keeper...

(Note the pigtails: there will be a haircut in the next 2 days but in the meantime I take the lead from those with much more knowledge of such things.)
